Topic: Creating the T-shaped individual
Industry leaders from companies such as IDEO and IBM often talk about the value of the T-shaped individual for the economy of the future.
T-shaped individuals have two main characteristics, symbolized by the two strokes of the letter T. The vertical stroke symbolizes depth of skill and knowledge in at least one discipline. The horizontal stroke symbolizes breadth and a disposition to collaborate across disciplines. It includes sufficient knowledge of other disciplines to create empathy and ability to understand collaborating disciplines’ constraints and challenged. The horizontal stroke also symbolizes good teamwork and communication skills, critical thinking and global understanding.
This special issue invites papers that discuss the concept of the T-shaped individual and pedagogies that help create T-shaped individuals. Conceptual debates and empirical research from a variety of methodological orientations are encouraged. To be considered for this special issue, manuscripts must be submitted by August 1, 2015.
